Kunafa rolls with cream filling

Ingredients:

  • 400g kunafa dough
  • 200g liquid butter
  • Syrup
  • Chopped pistachios for decoration

Ingredients for the cream filling:

  • 380g milk
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 small tablespoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

Cream filling:

  1. Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat it over a moderately high flame.
  2. Add sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract and stir until the mixture begins to boil.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

Preparation of kunafa:

  1. Grease the bottom of a large baking sheet and place the kunafa threads on the bottom.
  2. Brush the dough strands with liquid butter.
  3. Take a piece of dough, about 20 cm long and 5 cm wide, and put a tablespoon of the cream at the end.
  4. Roll the strand into a roll. Repeat the process with the rest of the dough.
  5. Grease the bottom of a baking sheet and place all the kunafa rolls next to each other, pressed tightly together in the sheet.
  6. Grill them in the oven at 180°C until they turn golden brown.
  7. Add cold syrup immediately to the rolls when they are removed from the oven and let them cool.
  8. Decorate with chopped pistachios on top for a beautiful look.
Note: You can also use other types of sweeteners according to your preference.
